On Saturday, October 24 at 8:00 p.m., the Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Cádiz will host Quintet 1909, an ensemble specializing in chamber music for five guitars. The group, which has been active for more than a decade, combines three Spanish guitars with a soprano guitar and a contrabass guitar, thus creating an unusual formation offering vast possibilities in terms of sonority and repertoire. Their first album, Paradigma, dedicated to original works, received the “Melómano de Oro” award in 2024.

The concert will take place at the current headquarters of the Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Cádiz, located since 2024 on the fourth floor of the Glorieta Building, in the outer enclosure of the Zona Franca. It is a space with a contemporary character and state-of-the-art technology that also includes an auditorium dedicated to Dr. Diego Murillo Carrasco.

The Colegio Oficial de Médicos de la Provincia de Cádiz (COMCADIZ) has over a century of history dedicated to the representation of medical professionals and the development of healthcare activity in the province. Throughout its history, the institution has played an important role in the social life of Cádiz, notably thanks to figures such as Cayetano del Toro, a doctor and promoter of numerous cultural and social initiatives that left their mark on Cádiz in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1947, the Association received the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Health in recognition of the work carried out by healthcare professionals following the explosion in Cádiz that same year. This distinction conferred on it the title of "Excelentísimo", which it still retains today.

In 2001, on the occasion of its centenary, the Association undertook a major architectural renovation by joining the Benjumeda and Cervantes buildings, which until then had served as its headquarters. However, on June 24, 2024, it began a new chapter by moving its services to the fourth floor of the Edificio Glorieta, located in the outer enclosure of the Zona Franca in Cádiz. This new headquarters responds to the need for facilities adapted to the current needs of the professionals registered with the Association and society.

Today, the Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Cádiz continues its institutional, training, and social activities in contemporary facilities dedicated to knowledge and professional activity. Its inclusion in the Cádiz Guitar Festival provides a venue that is different from the historical spaces in the program, bringing music closer to a modern environment where the dissemination of knowledge, culture, and commitment to Cádiz society intersect.
