Concert at The Chapel of San Fermín (Pamplona)

On Thursday April 13th, the Capilla de San Fermín (San Lorenzo church) in Pamplona (Calle Mayor, 74) hosted a concert that combined the tradition of Spanish music for classical guitar with the European musical heritage of the string quartet.
We enjoyed a pleasant and varied concert in which we made an exciting journey through the music of various composers from the 19th to the 21st centuries, where the classical guitar has stood out for its Spanish essence and the composers have drunk so much from Spanish folklore.
We listened to the Spanish guitar as a solo instrument as well as in an exciting instrumental dialogue with the string quartet, enjoying the art of the Ukrainian guitarist Stanislav Steshenko and the Chagall string quartet from Madrid (Spain).
THE VENUE
The Parish of San Lorenzo de Pamplona
The Parish of San Lorenzo de Pamplona is one of the most endearing churches in the city for housing inside, in addition to the main altar dedicated to San Lorenzo, the Chapel of San Fermín and the Chapel of La Dolorosa.
On July 7th every year a Procession in honour of San Fermín starts from this church. An effigy of the saint is kept in a chapel inside.
Replacing another baroque building, the present structure dates from 1901 and was designed by the architect Florencio Ansoleaga. The interior is in the neoclassical style.
The Chapel of San Fermín is located in the church of San Lorenzo. It was built between 1696 and 1717. The chapel, with a Neoclassical air, stands as you enter to the right, and on the altar, you will find the much-venerated image of the Saint, a half-length sculpture made of polychrome silver-trimmed wood from the late 15th century. The carving was placed there on 6 July 1717, and since then, it only leaves the Chapel every 7 July for the main Procession.

THE ARTISTS
Guitarist: Stanislav Steshenko
Stanislav began studying singing and piano at the age of five. Later, at the age of 9, he began studying guitar at the Mirgorod music school with Professor Kasyanenko (2004-2011). He graduated from Glier Kiev School of Music with Professor Drozdova O (2011-2015).
He continued his studies at the Kiev University of Culture and Arts and at the Kharkiv National University of the Arts (Kotlyarevsky), where he had Zhadko V and DotsenkoV as professors.
Stanislav has participated in regional, national and international competitions and contests in Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Germany, Greece, Belgium, Spain and Croatia. He is the main performer of works for guitar by Ukrainian composers and collaborates with the “Kyiv Soloists” orchestra.
He has attended masterclasses with Gabriel Bianco, Carlo Marchione, Alex Garrobe, Angel Pinero, Lukasz Kuropaczewski, Judicael Perroy and René Izquierdo.
He is currently studying at the University of music and performing arts Munich (Prof. Halasz), with a scholarship from the DAAD Foundation.
String quartet “Cuarteto Chagall”
The Chagall quartet is integrated by Cristina Pascual Godoy (violin), Sergio Gómez (violin), Abel Nafee Rosch (viola) and Irene Celestino (cello).
The quartet has given a large number of concerts both nationally and internationally, including its participation in the festivals “Clásicos en Verano” and “Arte Sacro” of the Community of Madrid, in several concert cycles in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid), in the cycle “Las soirées de Riaza” (Segovia), MusaE cycles supported by Acción Cultural Española and the MECD, Juventudes Musicales or the concert given in the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid in commemoration of the 115th anniversary of the SGAE (Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers).
On the international scene, it is worth mentioning the concert tour as guest quartet at the “Junger Künstler Bayreuth Festival” or their concert at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, both with great critical and public acclaim. They have also given concerts in Saint Jean de Luz and Biarritz (France).

Preludio azul
Dedicada a mi madre, víctima de la voracidad de la Guerra Civil española. Debe estar en el cielo y por eso lleva el nombre de Preludio Azul.
Evocación
Recuerdo de juventud de postguerra con mi hermano y su apoyo para yo fuera músico. En esta obra se refleja entre sus notas, la vida de sacrificios por salir adelante en nuestra juventud.
Murmullo musical
Es un murmullo musical en tono Mayor y menor simulando un chorro continuado de notas.
El viento de la vida
Preludio dedicado a la vida, su empuje y fuerza.
Caprichos
Es una obra espontánea, juguetona, hay un juego entre la melodía y el cromatismo que le da un interés especial

El 11 de noviembre a la 19:00 se organiza a través de la Asociación de guitarra clásica Ángel G. Piñero, un concierto de guitarra sola y guitarra y cuarteto de cuerdas en la sala Manuel de Falla de la SGAE. Es un concierto monográfico de parte de las obras de Piñero, que serán interpretadas por un concertista ucraniano premiado, Stalisnav Stetshenko y el cuarteto Chagall.
