International Guitar Festival of Cádiz > Alejandro Hurtado & Quartett HANA
Alejandro Hurtado & Quartett HANA
Saturday, November 7 at 10:30 p.m.
Casino Gaditano · Inner Patio – Cádiz
On Saturday, November 7 at 10:30 p.m., the Casino Gaditano will host an encounter between the flamenco guitarist Alejandro Hurtado and the Quartett HANA, a young international chamber music ensemble. Hurtado has established himself as one of the outstanding figures in concert flamenco guitar and has notably won the Bordón Minero. Alongside him, the Quartett HANA, founded in 2019 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, brings the language of the string quartet and a strong international vocation.
The concert will take place in the inner courtyard of the Casino Gaditano, on the Plaza de San Antonio. Built in the 18th century and renovated in the Isabelline era, the building stands out for the neo-Mudéjar decoration of its patio, designed in 1890 by the Sevillian artist Adolfo López Rodríguez. The combination of this historical setting and the dialogue between flamenco guitar and string quartet makes this concert one of the most unique proposals of the program.
THE VENUE
Casino Gaditano · Cádiz
Located at number 15 Plaza de San Antonio, the Casino Gaditano was founded on October 27, 1844, and moved to its current premises in 1848. The building occupies an old 18th-century mansion belonging to a family of wealthy merchants, linked to the Istúriz family and to some of the most significant political episodes of liberal Cádiz. Formerly known as "Casa Otomana", the mansion hosted political meetings and movements under the absolutist reign of Ferdinand VII, before becoming the headquarters of an institution that would take an important place in the social and cultural history of the city.
The building stands out for its architecture and the successive transformations it has undergone. In 1857, architect Juan de la Vega redesigned the facade, introducing large Ionic pilasters and Renaissance-inspired decorative elements characteristic of Isabelline architecture. At the end of the 19th century, the Sevillian sculptor Adolfo López Rodríguez carried out a new intervention that transformed the inner patio into a singular neo-Mudéjar space, while preserving the Isabelline decoration of the state rooms. Surrounded by marble columns and featuring refined decor, this patio is today one of the most emblematic elements of the Casino.
Throughout its history, the Casino Gaditano has hosted numerous personalities from Spanish political, cultural, and artistic life, including Isabella II, Alfonso XIII, Manuel de Falla, Emilio Castelar, Segismundo Moret, José María Pemán, and Rafael Alberti. Beyond its social activities, the institution also distinguished itself from its early years by its philanthropic commitment, supporting the creation of hospitals, public kitchens, and various relief initiatives during epidemics, wars, and natural disasters.
Its cultural vocation is also reflected in its historical library, created in 1858, which today contains more than 10,000 volumes, notably dedicated to the history of Cádiz, the Cortes, and Spanish legislation. The Casino continues to host conferences, exhibitions, concerts, and cultural encounters, perpetuating its role as a place of dialogue and cultural dissemination. As part of the Cádiz Guitar Festival, its remarkable neo-Mudéjar patio will host several concerts, creating a dialogue between the guitar, flamenco, and one of the most unique places in Cádiz's heritage.
EL ESPACIO
TEATRO VILLAMARTA
THE ARTISTS
Alejandro Hurtado, Alicante
Alejandro Hurtado (San Vicente del Raspeig, Alicante, 1994) is a guitarist specializing in flamenco, recognized for his knowledge of tradition and his ability to develop his own musical language. He began studying classical guitar at the age of nine, while continuing his training in flamenco guitar. He then pursued higher education at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Córdoba, where he obtained an Honors Degree in 2017 as well as the Extraordinary End of Studies Award. He also obtained the master's degree in flamenco from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), with the same distinctions.
During his career, he has received numerous awards, notably the Bordón Minero, won in 2017 at the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas in La Unión, one of the most prestigious distinctions in flamenco guitar. He has also performed with various orchestras, interpreting the Concierto de Aranjuez in prestigious halls like the Teatro Real and the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Auditorio de Zaragoza, and the Palau de la Música in Barcelona.
His discography reflects his interest in exploring different approaches to the flamenco guitar. In 2022, he released Maestros del arte clásico flamenco, a tribute to Ramón Montoya and Manolo de Huelva that revives their old playing styles using original historical instruments. In 2023, he presented Tamiz, his second album, dedicated to his own compositions. In September 2025, he released El Primer Llanto, an album that combines his personal vision of flamenco with the rediscovery of historical musical forms, such as the habanera and panaderos. Through these projects, Alejandro Hurtado continues to explore the dialogue between guitar tradition and new possibilities for expression.
