CONCERTS > CONVENT NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL ROSARIO Y SANTO DOMINGO

CONCERT AT THE CLOISTER OF THE CONVENT “NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL ROSARIO Y SANTO DOMINGO”, Cádiz.
November 11, 2022.
20:00h

This concert is especially relevant for the homage and tribute to the figure of Ángel since it will be the first time that his works are performed in Cádiz (his hometown). Without a doubt, it will be an emotional moment and another milestone in the dissemination of his work throughout Spain and other corners of the world.

THE VENUE

Convent of Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Santo Domingo

The convent of Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Santo Domingo (also called the church of Santo Domingo) in Cádiz, located on the edge of the historic center, near the port, from a historical perspective, is the religious building in Cadiz with the greatest American connection from the moment of its foundation, as its objective was to house the Dominicans who came and went from the other end of the Atlantic. It is in the late Mannerist style, with Baroque elements, and is an asset of cultural interest.

In addition to the church, the large cloister courtyard and the chapel of the Venerable Third Order stand out from the complex.

From an artistic point of view, the convent contains important Baroque marble works of Genoese origin, fundamental testimonies of the intense commercial and artistic relations established between Cádiz and Genoa in the 17th and 18th centuries.

String quartet from the Orchestra “Álvarez Beigbeder” (Jerez de la Frontera)

The ÁLVAREZ BEIGBEDER string quartet is integrated by: Fernando Pina (violin I), Ana Belén Pina (violin II), María Calvo (viola) and Candela Hernández (cello).

The orchestra was created in 1998, thanks to the initiative of Archil Pochkua (viola of the ROSS) and the Jerez-born lawyer Antonio de la Herrán and various people interested in music, thus creating a non-profit association.

It owes its name to the famous Jerez composer Mr. Germán Álvarez Beigbeder. Since then, it has been operating in a stable and continuous way, giving young Andalusian musicians the opportunity to train and participate in multiple classical music events inside and outside Spain.

Since its creation, the Orchestra has promoted knowledge and dissemination of the works of the great Jerez-born composer D. Germán Álvarez Beigbeder, as well as that of other Spanish composers.

It has offered hundreds of concerts throughout Andalusia, a large part of the Spanish geography and abroad regularly in countries such as Canada, France, Belgium, China, Russia, etc.

Among its many performances, the concerts offered in Paris stand out, one of them in the Oratory of the Louvre Museum, invited by the Chevalier de Saint-George Association. In addition, under the baton of its honorary director, Juan Luis Pérez, and maestro Carlos Aragón, he performed the Brittens family opera "El Diluvio de Noé" at the Villamarta Theater in December 2007 and 2008. The recording of his First Album in 2004 released by the Joly Group and republished by the Ministry of Education when it was designated by it for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth.

In its beginnings, the Orchestra was made up of student musicians from the "Joaquín Villatoro" Conservatory of Jerez. Subsequently, thanks to the work of its board of directors and the quality of the orchestra itself, its number increased with students from all over the province and Andalusia. It is currently made up of founding musicians, graduates and teachers.

The orchestra gives the students who form its Joven Camerata (School Orchestra) the opportunity to participate in the different concerts that are organized, being an excellent and unique opportunity for these young musicians.

It is a benchmark of quality, serious work and commitment throughout Andalusia, being the oldest orchestra in the entire province.

It participates annually in the prestigious festival for young people "Eurochestries", taking Spanish music and especially that of maestro D. Germán Álvarez Beigbeder around the world. Currently the orchestra continues to offer its concerts with quality, experience and public success. Recently, "Stabat Mater" by D. Germán Álvarez Beigbeder at the Teatro Villamarta and "Beethoven's Ninth Symphony" with the Coral de la Uca at the Gran Teatro Falla stand out.
